Jeff Calhoun
Jeff Calhoun
Jeff Calhoun is a self-taught Guitarist.
Receiving his first guitar at the age of eight, Jeff first learned to play country music but wanting more of a challenge, quickly became seduced by metal. Influences such as Randy Rhodes and Zak Wilde (Ozzy Osborne) have helped shape his raw talent into that of a master.
Jeff became the Lead Guitar of STORM, which he founded in 1979. Playing some 100+ shows a year featuring original and hard rock cover music, Storm quickly started entertaining at local venues, performing with such acts as Skid Row, Tesla, Jackyl, Great White, and Ratt. In 1988 their self entitled single "Storm" was release. Received with such enthusiasm "Virgin Voyage" a 5-song cassette released in the fall 1991.
Wanting more of a challenge then rock provided, Jeff turned to the romance of Classical Guitar.
Applying his previously acquired musical knowledge; theory, composition, ear training, and tablature reading, Jeff developed his own classical brand. Classical, Acoustic, Finger Picking, with the incorporation of a Flamenco method gives his music a very unique flavor. Like one of his influence Andres Segovia, Jeff is self-taught in all of these techniques.
Jeff has been performing his classical work live since Dec. 2003 when he performed for the Campaign Celebration Party of Vilas County Judge Neal "Chip" Nielsen. He has engaged audiences at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum, The Taste of Tomahawk, countless weddings and corporate events and continues to entertain in weekly performances in and around the greater Northern Wisconsin area.
Like Segovia, Jeff plays Ramirez and Rodriguez guitars hand made in Spain. He also plays Kono, Hauser, and Hirade guitars. Jeff is currently in the recording studio and will be releasing a CD later this year.
